Darth Vader’s Star Wars Lightsaber Breaks Auction Record With $3.6 Million Sale

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, the iconic lightsaber of villain Darth Vader from the Star Wars films sold last Thursday at auction for $3.6 million, setting a new record. The weapon was one of 433 film and television props sold during a live auction in Los Angeles. Before the sale, the lightsaber was expected to fetch between $1 million and $3 million.

Brandon Alinger, director at Propstore, said: “It’s truly something special to see a Star Wars lightsaber—an emblem of one of the greatest cinematic sagas—become the most valuable franchise item in auction history.”

The buyer’s identity has not been disclosed. The lightsaber surpassed the previous record-holder, an R2-D2 droid from the same franchise, which sold for $2.7 million. By comparison, the most expensive lightsaber before this sale belonged to Luke Skywalker and was auctioned in 2017 for $450,000.
